we thank you for contacting us and for the trust you have placed in us by asking us to intervene on your Profoto B4 battery, a product that – as you know – is no longer supported by the manufacturer nor available with original spare parts.
Precisely in consideration of our experience in the field of professional regeneration, we are often asked, as in your case, to attempt an intervention anyway in the hope of prolonging the life of these devices, while also being aware of the technical criticalities that such an operation may entail. The main problem lies in the electronic board inside the battery, a component that – over time – can develop anomalous behaviors that are not always detectable in the initial tests. Upon receipt, when the battery is completely off, we check whether the board activates correctly after an initial charge: if the result is positive, we proceed with the regeneration.
However, it is important to know that only after installing the new battery can intermittent electronic defects emerge, such as the random interruption of the current flow, followed by a spontaneous reactivation, without any apparent rule. These are absolutely unpredictable behaviors, which do not always manifest themselves in the tests but which can affect the use of the device over time.
In the event of a malfunction following the regeneration, we are completely available to reinstall the battery pack in another container possibly provided by the customer, if his electronic board is more stable. The operation involves only a modest contribution for labor, equal to approximately €60.
We emphasize that, given the current market conditions and the total absence of original spare parts, regeneration represents the only concrete way to continue using a highly valuable device such as the Profoto B4. It is a path that implies a margin of technical uncertainty, but that many customers - like you - still choose to take, relying on our expertise and professionalism.
